چکیده

This paper presents some biological features of juvenile and adult specimens of Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda (Bloch, 1793), in the eastern middle Adriatic Sea. A total of 194 specimens were analysed, of which 93 were juveniles and 101 were adults. Juvenile individuals ranged from 5.7 to 8.4 cm while adults ranged from 39.3 to 56.7 cm. In order to analyse biometry, nine morphometric characters were analysed. Length-length equations for overall converted body lengths of fish were linear. Comparison of length-length relationships between juvenile and adult specimens showed statistically significant differences in almost all morphometric characteristics, except for the fork length–second dorsal fin base. Females insignificantly prevailed in adults. Overall gonads were in post-spawning state. Juveniles were unsexed. Length-weight relationships of juveniles and adults were W = 0.0033LF3.424 and W = 0.0149LF2.984, respectively.

The Atlantic Bonito (Sarda sarda, Bloch 1793) Transcriptome and Detection of Differential Expression during Larvae Development

The Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda, Bloch 1793) belongs to the important marine fish species with a wide geographical distribution covering the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and its bordering seas. Aquaculture practices for this species are still in their infancies and scientific studies are seldom undertaken, mainly because of difficulties in sampling. Thus for small tuna species like the At...

Swimming performance studies on the eastern Pacific bonito Sarda chiliensis, a close relative of the tunas (family Scombridae) II. Kinematics.

The swimming kinematics of the eastern Pacific bonito Sarda chiliensis at a range of sustained speeds were analyzed to test the hypothesis that the bonito's swimming mode differs from the thunniform locomotor mode of tunas. Eight bonito (fork length FL 47.5+/-2.1 cm, mass 1.25+/-0.15 kg) (mean +/- S.D.) swam at speeds of 50-130 cm s(-1) at 18+/-2 degrees C in the same temperature-controlled wat...

An investigation on age, growth and biological characteristics of red mullet (Mullus barbatus ponticus, Essipov, 1927) in the Eastern Black Sea

This study was carried out during May 2010 – April 2011 in order to determine various biological properties of red mullet occurring in the Eastern Black Sea region. The average length and weight of 1435 specimens were determined as 13.13 cm and 23.14 g, respectively. Weight-length relationship was determined as W = 0.0088 L3.0338. The age distribution of this population ranged between I and VII...

Biometry markers of chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1782, in the Adriatic Sea

Chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1782), is a coastal pelagic fish species that usually lives between the surface and depths of 250 or 300 m (BAuCHOt, 1987). It is a geographically widespread species that inhabits the moderate and warm waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans (COllEtE & NAuEN, 1983). It is also rather frequent in the Mediterranean and its adjacent seas (Black ...
